How to take a taxi in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia ?
Ulaanbaatar has 1.5 million population of the Mongolian capital city. There are around 8 taxi companies but do not have government taxi serves company. Taxi companies are not enough, that’s why many people provide a taxi service with their private cars. During the rush hours (approximately 7:00-9:00 and 17:00-20:00), it is not easy to take a taxi. Also, traffic conditions are often so challenging that a simple ride can take double the time that is usually needed.
Price of Ulaanbaatar taxi
The price of a taxi ride is MNT1,500-2,000 (nighttime: MNT2000-2500) per kilometer. The most of taxis is not calculate waiting time cost.

The usual method to get a taxi in the streets of Ulaanbaatar is to wave while standing at the side of the road. The first person who opens the taxi door is the one who will finally use it. Local people use this way, and it is easy but for the foreigner, there some barriers for example, most taxi drivers do not speak English

Tips about Ulaanbaatar Taxis
- Unfortunately, most of the taxi drivers don’t speak English.
- You should always have your hotel’s address and map.
- You can negotiate a set price with your taxi driver if your desired destination is very far.
- Mongolian taxi does not have any receipt to give you so to make sure you avoid any hidden charges; you can ask the driver to turn on the taximeter or ask price first. Also, you can control the distance by using google map, and it can prevent you from overcharging.
